Required Items for Building Permits

Some items may not apply to your specific project. Insurance cetificates must have either the Town of Marcellus as certificate holder,depending on project location.

Project: New House

  • Copy of your Deed (proof of ownership) if no recent permits
  • Copy of your Survey indicating the project location with dimensions and setbacks from property lines
  • Driveway Permit application
  • Approved, Stamped Septic Plan
  • Approved SPDES Permit from NYSDEC (If disturbing one acre or more of land) Building Plans (Stamped by licensed NYS architect or engineer if structural work involved or if renovations over $20,000 or 1,500 total residential square footage.)
  • Energy Code Certification
  • Truss Design Sheets or Certificates
  • Electrical Inspection Application from one of the following approved agencies: The Inspector (1-800-487-0535), or  / Commonwealth Electrical Insp. Svc. (633-0027)
  • Plumbing Permit from Onondaga County Plumbing (435-6614)
  • General Contractor’s Liability Insurance Certificate
  • General Contractor’s Workman’s Compensation Insurance Certificate or exemption
  • ○ (Form C105.2, WC/DB 100 or BP-1)

Project: Addition

  • Copy of your Deed (proof of ownership) if no recent permits
  • Survey (with addition plotted on a copy of the survey.)
  • Plumbing Permit (Onondaga County Health, 435-6614)
  • Electrical Inspection Application from one of the following approved agencies: The Inspector (1-800-487-0535), or / Commonwealth Electrical Insp. Svc. (633-0027)
  • Plans, including roof truss design sheets (Stamped by NYS architect if over $20,000.)
  • Contractor’s Liability Insurance Certificate
  • Workman’s Compensation Insurance Certificate or exemption, (Form C105.2, C105.21 or U26.3)

Project: Shed, Deck, Pole Barn, etc.

  • Copy of your Deed (proof of ownership) if no recent permits
  • Survey (With structure plotted on a copy of the survey.)
  • Electrical Inspection Application from one of the following approved agencies: The Inspector (1-800-487-0535), or / Commonwealth Electrical Insp. Svc. (633-0027)
  • Plans, including roof truss design sheets (Stamped by NYS architect if over $20,000.)
  • Contractor’s Liability Insurance Certificate with the Town of Marcellus as certificate holder
  • Workman’s Compensation Insurance Certificate or exemption, (Form C105.2, C105.21 or U26.3)

Project: Swimming Pool (unground or above)

  • Copy of your Deed (proof of ownership) if no recent permits
  • Survey (With structure plotted on a copy of the survey.)
  • Electrical Inspection Application from one of the following approved agencies: The Inspector (1-800-487-0535), or / Commonwealth Electrical Insp. Svc. (633-0027)
  • Plans (Brouchure of pool, description of fence, drawing of deck construction)
  • Contractor’s Liability Insurance Certificate
  • Workman’s Compensation Insurance Certificate or exemption, (Form C105.2, C105.21 or U26.3)

Project: Solid Fuel Heating Device, Fireplace

  • Copy of your Deed (proof of ownership) if no recent permits
  • Survey (With structure plotted on a copy of the survey.)
  • Electrical Inspection Application from one of the following approved agencies: The Inspector (1-800-487-0535), or / Commonwealth Electrical Insp. Svc. (633-0027)
  • Plans (Literature on stove, fireplace & chimney, construction drawings)
  • Contractor’s Liability Insurance Certificate
  • Workman’s Compensation Insurance Certificate or exemption, (Form C105.2, C105.21 or U26.3)
